Сorn silk extract showed tyrosinase inhibition, antioxidant activities, and antibacterial activities. The results revealed that skin bacteria including C. acnes and S. epidermidis were inhibited by the ethanolic extract of corn silk. The higher total phenolic and flavonoid contents were also found in the ethanolic extract. Moreover, cardiac glycosides, n-hexadecanoic acid, hexadecanoic acid, ethyl ester, oleic acid, and 9,12-octadecadienoic acid were identified in this extract.
