Sabal Serrulata Lipophilic: Small Palm – large Possibilities
Ezheva Yu., Technologist of Technical Support Service, Revada LLC

Sabal Serrulata lipohilic is a lipophilic extract of the drupes of the small palm Serenoa repens. This fan palm is endemic to southeastern United States. It has dark red to black very hard fruits that are highly enriched with phytosterols (mainly ß-Sitosterol) and free fatty acids like oleic, palmitic, lauric and myristic acid. Phytosterols help to not only recover skin barrier function, but also reduce irritation, erythema and itching, therefore they are highly suitable for the care of very dry and sensitive skin. In ex-vivo studies, Sabal Serrulata lipohilic was proved to exhibit strong anti-inflammatory effect and regenerate the integrity of the skin barrier after induced damage. It approved by COSMOS and highly recommended for daily creams, lipsticks, sun protection, pre- and after-shaves cosmetics and hair care.

Merkulov D.A., Ph.D. (Chemistry), Deputy Director for Technical Marketing and Sales Support, Norkem LLC

Isetionates are anionic surfactants derived from carboxylic acids (C8-C18) of vegetable oils and isethionic acid (2-hydroxyethanesulfonic acid). Isetionates are also called acyl isethionates or acyloxyethanesulfonates. They are referred to as dermatologically “soft” surfactants which have excellent foaming ability; they retain their detergent properties even in hard water. Isetionates have excellent cleansing properties and leave a positive skin feel. These surfactants are stable over a pH range of 4.5 to 8.0. They are readily biodegradable in the environment and are classified as slightly toxic to humans, animals and plants. Isetionates are widely used in solid toilet soaps, laundry detergents, body lotions and creams, shower gels, hair shampoos, liquid hand soaps, shaving creams, and other products.
