In Vitro Cell Research and its Place in Evidence-Based Cosmetology

In vitro cell studies occupy an important place in evidence-based cosmetology, enabling the investigation of cosmetic ingredient mechanisms of action at the cellular level. This paper presents a comparison of major research types (in vitro, ex vivo, in vivo, in silico, instrumental methods, sensory analysis) across key parameters: experimental control, biological relevance, speed, cost, and applicability to ingredient analysis. Practical aspects of study design are discussed: choosing between fibroblasts and keratinocytes, primary versus immortalized cells, optimal passages and requirements for test samples. The paper concludes that in vitro models are valuable for understanding mechanisms of action and for developing accurate marketing claims.
