Description

This mild, PEG-free emulsion is a starting point formula for wipes and is designed to clean and condition the sensitive skin of babies. Glucate™ DOEmulsifier, a vegetable-derived emulsifier, is combined with Pemulen™ TR-2 Polymer and a low amount of Coco-Glucoside to afford efficient costabilization. Schercemol™ 1818 Ester, also derived from vegetable sources, provides emolliency and a soft afterfeel to this emulsion.

Properties

• Appearance: Thin white lotion
• pH: 6.0 – 6.5
• Viscosity: 500 – 800 mPa.s
• Stability: Passed 3 months @ 45 °C and RT, Passed 5 cycles freeze / thaw

Procedure

1. PART A: Add Glycerin to Deionized Water and heat to 55-60°C.
2. PART B: In a separate vessel, disperse Pemulen™ TR-2 Polymer into Schercemol™ 1818 Ester.
3. When the polymer is fully dispersed add Glucate™ SS Emulsifier and heat to 55-60°C.
4. Add PART B to PART A. Mix for 20-30 minutes to allow the polymer to swell.
5. Homogenize batch with Ultra Turrax homogenizer at 6,000 rpm for 2 minutes.
6. Neutralize batch with Sodium Hydroxide (18%). Mix until uniform.
7. Add Coco-Glucoside. Mix slowly to avoid air entrapment. Begin cooling batch.
8. Mix batch until temperature reaches 40°C.
9. Add PART E ingredients in order to batch with mixing. Mix until uniform.
10. Dilute with Deionized Water.
