The European Commission has notified the World Trade Organisation (WTO) of its intention to restrict the use of nine Hair dyes substances in cosmetic products. The chemicals will be added to the list of restricted substances in Annex III of the EU cosmetics Regulation.

In addition, the EU executive will authorise thioglycolic acid and its salts for their use in products intended for eyelash waving, for professional use only.

The EU aims to adopt the amendments in April, next year. The WTO is accepting comments on the proposed changes until 24 January 2015.
