DUPONT CELEBRATES EXPANDING PORTFOLIO IN NEW APPLICATIONS FOR THE COSMETICS AND PERSONAL CARE INDUSTRIES AT LUXE PACK 2017

As key industry leaders gather at the 2017 edition of luxury goods packaging exhibition LUXE PACK, DuPont is taking the opportunity to showcase its growing portfolio for the cosmetics and personal care sectors. Further to the successful launch of DuPont™ Crastin® polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin in the cosmetic packaging industry, DuPont is happy to announce the expansion of its portfolio in new applications, combining functionality and aesthetics, and responding to new customers’ challenges.

DuPont has become a significant supplier of polymers used to produce cosmetics packaging in direct contact with cosmetic formulations. DuPont™ Crastin® PBT and DuPont™ Hytrel® thermoplastic elastomer are increasingly in demand for the development of mascara brushes and dispensing systems. These high-performance materials help customers overcome manufacturing challenges, and comply with industry standards, such as cosmetic (Eu1223/2009) and food regulations (EU10/2011 and FDA).

The high mechanical properties of Crastin® PBT, as well as its proven dimensional stability and chemical resistance, makes it a functional and reliable solution for customers. This resin family, which is particularly suitable for the production of dispensing systems and mascara stems, can be used to mold thin and complex parts, and makes it easier to inject and fill product components. The use of Crastin® PBT helps ensure smooth surface finishes, and avoids the occurrence of sink marks. Finally, Crastin® PBT offers customers the opportunity to apply different types of decorations, including hot stamping, painting or metallization, and sublimation.

For its part, Hytrel® thermoplastic elastomer offers the flexibility of rubber in combination with the strength and processability of thermoplastics. This makes this grade an excellent fit for the development of flocked lip-gloss applicators and mascara brushes. As Hytrel® is used for the manufacturing of the brush, the material is in direct contact with the mascara. Thanks to Hytrel®, less excess mascara gets stuck on the brush, allowing for a more precise and gentle application of the mascara on the eye lashes. In addition, Hytrel® grades also offer color stability and color diversity.

“In general, there is a growing market trend towards the use of polyester for cosmetics packaging. We help our customers respond to this trend by working closely together to find tailored solutions to their challenges. We use our mold design expertise and state-of-the-art technology to identify the most appropriate resins for a wide range of products”, says Alexandra Fabbro, EMEA Marketing Development Leader at DuPont.
